About Us When I first considered opening the salon I envisioned a space where the wonderful and creative community of Lane County would feel comfortable and welcome. I am able to bring that concept into the salon with:
A place where clients and friends can relax, enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or rehydrate with water.
A great team of stylists.
Locally made items that you can purchase, great for gifts.
An open one on one environment where you can verbally de-stress from your busy schedule, or look at magazines and have a quite moment just for you. (All magazines are recycled or donated to local art classes.)
We donate to local community non-profit programs in Lane County by offering salon services, gift certificates for auctions and space in the salon for advertising. (see in the community)
We are always accepting donations to Food For Lane County, help fill up the FFLC barrel located in the salon.
At I Run With Scissors we hope to inspire our clients to think about Sustainable Beauty. By taking time to reduce the energy use, reuse paper and plastic products as much when we can and recycle everything from boxes to bottles, I Run With Scissors is looking towards a greener future. A large part of living sustainable deals with the relationships people and businesses build between each other, and how these relationships are cultivated and strengthen. Because we value our clients, we want to share our salon's eco-activities with you and love when you share your eco-activities with us. We can become a source of inspiration for both beauty and sustainable business practise with each other.
Reduce the salon's eco-footprint.
The salon's climate control is monitored daily. Reduce energy by monitoring
the climate control. We turn down the thermostat just 4 degrees in the winter and rarely use the air conditioner, we run the fans in the air conditioner for less energy usage, in the summer to prevent the emission of nearly 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide annually. We will always adjust the heat or air to accommodate the comfort of our clients just ask!
We recycle everything in the salon from glass, plastic, paper and cardboard. We also have gardeners that will occasionally pick up hair clippings, used tea bags for gardens and compost around the area, or I may bring these things home for my own compost. (If you are a gardener and interested in adding hair to your compost let me know.)
We have worked with Matters of Trust, when they are accepting hair, and donate all our hair clippings for the purpose of making hair mats that are used to clean up oil spills. Not only are reducing what we are putting into the landfill by eliminating the disposal of hair we are also putting that waste to use and cleaning up the environment. A great big shout out and thank you to Matters of Trust for their brilliant resourcefulness.
Precyle; reduce waste before we buy. We consider packaging that comes with the product as one of the factors in determining choice in what we retail in the salon.
Many of the items we retail use post consumer recycled materials in manufacturing and packaging, and can be recycled. To help bring recycling full circle in the salon.
We use energy star rated lighting in the salon, where possible. We also try to turn off lights in the salon when they are not needed.
We offer/use products that are not tested on animals.
We now carry a wonderful line of Eco-Friendly Bamboo Brushes.
Our laundry is done using Biokleen laundry detergent, and we use eco-friendly cleaning products whenever possible. In some cases strong cleaning chemicals are used for sanitation practices in accordance with Oregon Health Licensing Rules and Regulations.
We use green paper products, including toilet paper and paper towels.
We offer two different ammonia free lines of hair color and a line of color with a dissipating ammonia base that is 98% natural.
We use and diffuse essential oils in the salon.
I am using a low wattage palette on this web site; a monitor uses 74 watts to display an all white web page with a low wattage palette we are using 63 or less watts.
We use Organics 100% organic cotton grown without toxic pesticides, fertilizers or irradiation, in our services.
We us eco-foil, precycled and recyclable foil for our color services.
We have Eco Designs Eco Friendly Shampoo capes. They are the Biodegradable alternative to vinyl, non toxic, made of 100% EVA. EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) is an alternative to PVC. Traditional PVC is chlorinated and is a source of many of the environmental heath concerns with PVC such as the emission of dioxin (a highly carcinogenic chemical).
