Well it is summer time and people are packing for summer vacation purchasing their
travel size EVO product, hint, hint. Women are packing their make-up and water proof
mascara preparing for swimming in the ocean. This is the perfect time to clean out and
replace much used items that may be old or expired.......your make-up. Here are some
basics on when to toss your beauty items and how to make them last longer.
Hair Products
Organic shampoos, conditioners, gels, and lotions are only good to keep around for one
year, unless the bottle contains an expiration date. That is industry recommendations.
Most ordinary gels and lotions are able to be kept for two years, if they get hard or begin
to crystallize, it is time to toss them.
To keep all styling products at their best keep the lids on the product, or to use a pump,
and always wipe around the bottle neck or around the lid after each use. Shake dry
shampoo, gel, hair spray and lotions before use.
If your product has discolored or smells bad it is a good inclination that you should rinse
out the container and recycle it.
Nail Polish
Nail Polish will last for three to six years if kept correctly.
It is best to keep nail polish in the fridge (I know it sounds weird) or in a cool cupboard or
closet. Do not store in an area that gets hot, like the car or garage.
If it is lumpy throw it away. Do not try to thin it out with nail polish remover, that will cause
the polish to flake on the nail and remover breaks down the consistency and quality of nail
polish.
Make-Up
Powdered eye shadow, blush, and face powder lasts forever if stored properly. Keep in a
dry place, and from getting wet.
Mineral make-up will last forever or until date of expiration if stored in a dry area, keep
away from moisture.
Mascara should be tossed out every 7 to 12 weeks ( I recommend every two months).
The wand and around the lid should be wiped with baby wipes or tissue and rubbing
alcohol after each use. Do not share mascara with anyone, this will cause the mascara to
become contaminated.
Liquid Foundation lasts for 6 months. Shake vigorously before use and after use wipe
around the lid and neck with tissue.
Liquid Eye Liner and Eye Shadow last for 6 to 8 months. Wipe down wand and around
the lid with baby wipes or tissue and rubbing alcohol after each use.
Clean your sponges after each use and please make sure they are dry before their next
use. Replace sponges once a month. Brushes must also be cleaned as least once a
month but don't worry about replacing those, unless they are loosing bristles or smells
bad.
